These massive bears, which are considered a sister species of the brown bear, inhabit the ranges of the Arctic Circle on the Asian and North American continents through Russia, Alaska, and Canada. Male polar bears, known as boars, can grow to weigh as much as 1,543 lbs.

The obverse of the Polar Bear and Cub Coins includes the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy is featured on all Canadian coinage and this design was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt, a Canadian artist.
